From 1979 on Manni von Bohr started his second musical carreer as the first Drum-Tester for the German >>Fachblatt Musiker Magazin<<.

Besides his intense studies in drumming Manni always had an interest in the technical side of his instrument, i. e. the manufacturing and sounds of drums. Very fast he became an international acknowledged specialist for drums.

Until 1993 Manni tested and wrote for the >>Fachblatt Musik Magazin<< as >>Senior Editor<< and manager of the drum department and since 1994 he has been releasing the workshop series >>Drum-Praxis<< about all the things that concern drums beyond the playing itself: drumsounds, microphoning, tuning, special playing techniques like double bass drumming and the like.

From 1988 until now Manni has been editor in chief of the drum magazine >>Drums & Percussion<<. His journalistic activities also help him to keep himself up-to-date for his own musical activities regarding sound and instruments and to stay in touch with drummers and manufacturers. Besides this Manni regards the magazine as a forum to pass on to his readers his experience and knowledge by means of tests, interviews, workshops, news etc. But first of all Manni is a highly inspired and creative drummer, with a lot of experience and knowledge: this ensures expertise information and advice to all the drummers who read his magazine. He's the guy who knows the scene and talks the language.

In 1992 as one of the first drummers in Germany Manni released a video called >>Drum-Praxis<< a documentation of his know-how in sounds, tuning and playing techniques, microphoning, setting up, etc. and lots of drumming.

His musical, unique and creative drumming, his technical know-how, his knowledge about the drummers scene and his mastership in all drumming dimensions led to a lot of appreciation from musicians and experts in many countries. In an interview with Modern Drummer magazine/USA he was called >>Germany's Pope of Drumming<<.

Udo Dahmen (Popakademie Mannheim) Interview in drums&percussion
