Matthias Bautz
Oriental Percussions
Since his childhood he has been playing Middle Eastern rhythms and instruments and since then has played with numerous Middle Eastern musicians and has appeared in several music productions and recordings such as SUBWAY TO SALLY, SLASABILL, HORA COLORA, LAYALI, ENSEMBLE, COOL MASALA and NAQQARA & SALSABIL. He has mastered the foundations of South Indian rhythms, Balkan Rhythms, Middle Age rhythms and Dance music.
He is one of the founding members of the popular Dance Theater Zua/Sol. With his percussion ensemble Naqqara he performs various challenging technical rhythms. Beside the standard Middle Eastern rhythms and approaches, he has made it a point to also cover more forgotten and unknown rhythm cycles.
He follows the mystical traditions and plays them covering all tempos and spiritual nuances. The rhythms are performed on traditional rhythmic instruments such as the Darbuka, Duholla, Bendir, Kenar and Mazhar as well as Sagat, Daire and Riqq.
At the Drumfactory Matthias is teaching the Darbuka, Tabla and the Frame Drum.
The lessons contain the history and roots of Middle Eastern rhythms, their territorial differences etc. Rhythmic cycles from 2-120 bpm etc. as well as diverse techniques, performance practice and solos.
